Garden Manager will advise you on service options available for your gardens and landscape features. We’ll create a garden care schedule that prioritizes services in the correct rotation throughout the growing season.

 

Perennials

Perennial care depends on the specific type of plant. Staking and deadheading of flowering perennials is performed as needed. We believe that all perennials should be cut back either at the end of the growing season or before the next growing season begins.

 

Annuals

Annuals are deadheaded as necessary and receive an application of extended-release fertilizer to encourage blooming. IPM For Ornamental Shrubs and Trees

 

Roses

Roses require specialized attention throughout the growing season. Applications for insects and diseases are included in this service. Additionally, the deadheading of roses is performed to encourage repeat flowing. As per client preferences, climbing roses will be attached to hard surfaces and trained to grow as per a master plan.

 

 

Garden Maintenance Basics

• Weeding: Our grounds keepers perform general weeding on a weekly basis. The frequency of this service can be increased as necessary to accommodate client requests. All planted or hardscape areas will be weeded either by hand or through the use of an herbicide. The method employed will vary based upon the density and plant type of the planting area.

• Mowing:  We mow turf areas on a seven-day rotation from early to mid-April through early November with an average of thirty mowing visits per year. Please note that the mowing schedule may vary due to weather conditions. 

• String Trimming: Areas that require string trimming include fence lines, turf areas that abut the house, trees that are not mulched, natural areas, and steep hillsides that cannot be cut with a mower. String trimming is performed with every mowing.

• Hard Edging: Hard-edged areas include sidewalks, curb lines, non-asphalt driveways, front walks, and other concrete or paver areas abutted by turf. Hard edging is performed with every other mowing or as necessary.

 

Specialty Garden Maintenance

• Groundcover Pruning We prune groundcover away from hard surfaces and turf areas to ensure the plant does not migrate from the planting bed. This service is performed as needed during site visits.

• Integrated Pest Management  Our tree and shrub care program involves monthly visits during which our technicians treat specific problems as they arise. We avoid the practice of blanket treating all shrubs whether they need treatment or not. In addition to looking for and treating diseases and insects, our technicians perform fertilization applications as necessary. Before winter arrives, we apply an anti-desiccant to broadleaf evergreens to aid in reducing winter stress.
